My First Assignment from UniMelb!

I finally got my first assignment of the year! Yahoo! I shall record this commemorative event with another photo post! :D First Assignment from UniMelb

You probably haven't seen someone quite as excited about an assignment, but you're reading the blog of someone who hasn't seen an assignment for about 6 months. 6 MONTHS. I haven't seen an assignment for SIX BLOODY MONTHS. Don't come telling me I should be happy I haven't seen an assignment for that long, especially since my boredom level increased considerably since I got here.

I was quite excited about getting this assignment. That's not because it would be the first assignment since I came here. That just happened to be convenient. Nobody should like assignments. It's unhealthy to like assignments. If you happen to love assignments, you should go stand in the corner with all the other hypernerds like you. :D

I wanted to get an assignment because I was bored. However, I have come into an additional problem, since the assignment looks short. As in, 'I need a few hours to finish it' kind of short. It falls far from my definition of an assignment: "Time and blood sucking leech you need to put on your brain so that you can get marks."

And by the way, some of you might want this, and some of you might prefer not knowing, but I decided I would make a geek code block for fun. Do note, some of the stuff in the geek block are approximations based on the code since I occasionally neither here nor there (and some stuff I made up so you will never know how geeky or otherwise I really am - and yes, vi rocks.). :D

Stapler and Staples Part One

(You might notice this is in a new category that suddenly appeared yesterday. :D) Thanks to Shockrave (no link because he apparently has no blog) for the inspiration, I decided it would be interesting if I picked an item of interest and made fun of it. I should think that I would use this item of interest until it becomes a lot less interesting. As you would've guessed by now, I will begin my Funny Stuff category with a stapler.

What could be so funny about a stapler? Some people already know. In fact, most of you should know. In case some of you don't know what a stapler looks like or what it does, I will give you a brief introduction.

Here's a stapler:

A stapler is generally used for stapling things together. Things that are held together by staples are considered staplers. Some of you might have never used a stapler without paper, but you see, a stapler is like a barracks. :D

For one, it can produce soldiers like these:

It makes the process a lot easier but separating staples for you. This might be so if you are intent of trying to do this:

Since I am in a rather mischievous mood today, I shall put this on a chair in the shared area of the apartment.

The lighting in Arrow is quite helpful at concealing something like a staple ant. With the flash, you can see the tiny ant quite well.

It's another story when we just use whatever light Arrow provides us.

After using the stapler, be sure to open it and reload it. I will cover this event later when I feel a little more humorous.

In the meantime, feel free to use the tiled photos of staplers below as your wallpaper. :D

I'd say this attempt wasn't so good, but what do you expect? Part 2 will probably be slightly more amusing. Slightly. :D

The Level of Difference

I've been pretty interested in what the difference is between me and those higher up in the academic department (as in studying, not as in teaching). :D This are the people whose academic results are like an age above mine. You've probably seen this post before somewhere when I was reflecting upon the difference. I think since I'm a little more mature now, I see it in a clearer light, so to speak.

These people are quite the talented people. They are gifted with what I would call the will to achieve. They have ambitions and aspirations and they hunt them down. While I should envy this will, this is what makes them them and this difference will make me to be me. Hence, I couldn't care less. :D

I'm a lot more aimless. I didn't know that I would go to HELP Institute for my studies. I didn't quite grasp that actuarial science was probably what I wanted to do. I took up programming because I thought it was fun. (It still is.) I loved mathematics because I thought it was one of the few things that seemed to challenge me in the right way. (Complex yet simple, amusing when you realise how careless you were.)

In the few months I gathered more knowledge about this field, the more I liked it. We were talking about a field with need for strong maths (check), probability (even better still), and some programming knowledge (you've got to be kidding right?). Am I taking this subject because I thought it would be fun? No. I took it because I liked the field - and I like the challenge too.

I believe firmly in doing what you like for a living. I rarely considered programming as a career because I probably would be sleeping through most of the course. That was certainly not something I wanted to study, although it was not entirely nonviable as a career. I like programming a lot, but not enough to tread through what I already knew like the back of my hand (honestly speaking, I probably know programming better than the back of my hand. I mean, how many of you count the number of hairs on the back of your hand?).

It was probably between business and computer science for me. I never did truly like the pure sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics) although some readers of this blog might remember me for my insane chemistry marks. I probably could do medicine, but I probably wouldn't make a good doctor, and it doesn't make much sense to me to do what I essentially didn't like.

It never occured to me I would be doing some form of applied maths (which is probably some kind of pure science). The goal didn't come until I learned of it. I was essentially aimless for a while, and settled into this. I've received a hell of a lot of warnings about my maths needing to be strong and so on and so forth. What a lot of people don't realise is that programming isn't for everyone.

I believe programming can be quite abstract for some people, and for some people, it just plain clicks perfectly. You can see immediately in class who are the ones who are struggling and the ones who are breezing along. What is the level of difference? It's probably some kind of level of thinking, some kind of madness which never made it through correctly.

Everyone has a certain pathway of thinking. I would think the best among the human race have already identified what they want to do, and will do anything in their power to get it. Some of us know what we want to do, but cannot tell that it is not what we really want. As for the rest of us? We just follow the flow. Sometimes, this flow will lead us to greatness. Other times, it will lead us into a steady line. At worst, a descent into oblivion.

We are who we are for a reason, and we all serve a purpose in this world of chaos. There will always be levels of difference, glass ceilings and floors. However, we should never forget, the levels are not necessarily above each other. :D

May you find... umm... your destiny. Maybe. LOL.

What I Did on My Birthday Yesterday

I was pretty happy yesterday. My birthday was relatively uneventful for most people, but I thought it was a good day.

In the morning, I played Project Gotham Racing 2 and some Paper Mario for quite a while. Then at about 10, I went online and did what typical people do online. Chat, surf, and vegetate in front of the LCD screen.

Two friends and I went to Hard Rock Cafe for lunch, and then made a (mandatory) stop at Safeway (a.k.a Woolworths a.k.a. supermarket a.k.a. living needs supplier a.k.a...... hey wait, I should stop this stupidity).

After we came back, I decided to take a nice nap. This nice nap lasted until 6:45pm, when I woke up and ate some microwave pasta, a can of sweet corn, a cup of soup. Of course, this was finished by a nice bowl of peaches and some ice cream. :D

Uneventful. Heck, today I had a test for Introduction to Programming. I was highly amused. :D

(I'm one hell of a boring guy. :D But what can you expect from a bored guy? To me, winning a few races in PGR2 is an grand event since I'm terrible at racing games. Expect another random idea tomorrow. Hopefully.)

Random Ideas Streaming In

As you might or might not have noticed, I have made an effort to post daily recently. Another thing you might have noticed is that they were mostly unrelated. (except for the my Internet is erratic part) Obviously, you cannot expect this trend to continue. :D I'll have more assignments soon and thusly, will be pretty busy as time passes. Of course, my brain is still nowhere where it used to be, and that would mean that if my brain's capabilities were to slowly return to normal, you might see me blog very often anyway.

I think it's good for a blogger to keep to a proper schedule of some kind eventually, but without me knowing what my workload will be next week, and the week after next, I have no idea how it would work out. I'm about to just glimpse through my programming book since I have a midsemester tomorrow in typical lazy person fashion.

I hope a good rest today will allow my brain to boot up just fine tomorrow. :D
