Upgrading in Progress - and an Apology

I'm pushing in an upgrade on my Wordpress to 1.5.1 - if you experience any funny occurences on the blog - please put it in the shoutbox - that's bound to work. ;) As for my blogging - I'm recovering from my supremely heavy past semester and erratic sleeping patterns. I'll get back to my review as soon as I'm back to myself entirely. ;) As for now, I'll figuring out how much space I need to put movies on my mobile device. LOL - I so need to go out and get a bigger card. :D I'll blog properly again once my troubles are over - I'll review Empire Earth 2 when I'm free - and I'm happy to say that Empire Earth 2 is not going to see the same rap I gave Empire Earth. :D

Back from Japan

I was in Japan the past few days, so I was unable to post much of anything - you know how things are when yo're on tour - there's no time to go surfing around the internet - I came back to see 54 unread e-mail messages - a big shock. I brought back some things from Japan - and I'll review them online later - too lazy now. :D

A Funny Problem?

For some odd reason, I can't seem to get WordPress to ping Petaling Street. Ever. I'll be attempting various fixes until I get down to having some time to find out wha's wrong. :D

Effective Learning Habits #1

Most high scorers will tell you to read from books in advance of your classes. They might tell you to read after your classes. They will tell you to listen in class. They will tell you to reflect on what was taught that very day. You've tried it - how come it never works? Why doesn't this work for everyone? It's because these few techniques don't really work like that. Everyone has their own learning style - some people can just read - some people can just get it by listening to their teacher. The fact is: you will never improve unless you learn. Studying isn't about reading, listening or reflecting. It's about learning. If you don't understand what you read, heard, or reflected upon - you didn't learn. Or at least, you couldn't. It's not possible to learn something you don't understand. It's possible to study what you don't understand - but never learn it.

When you learn something, you never forget or at least will always be able to recall what you've learnt. It's what separates achievers from the others. It's the only reason why they appear to perform better - they learn fater and more efficiently. Why do they learn faster? The environment could be more conducive to their preferred learning styles, they could have some serious brain power that exceeds your own, they might have more than one thinking 'language' (I use several ways around a problem - you might try creating your own style or doing such things - there's more than one way to make a box - you don't have to think outside it - you have to think at every angle of the box - not outside yet).

There is always more side to a story - the teacher might choose one way that doesn't suit you - it's important to understand what's the teacher wants to pass on to you - the reason you see a teacher after class is to get her to reveal the angle you're thinking from rather than the angle she showing the rest of the class that you don't quite understand.

The most important part of studying is learning - and if you can't learn - then, follow the next effective habit - don't forget - never put knowledge in short term memory. ;)

Review of iPod mini Review

Was my call on the iPod mini unjustified? I insulted it like it was something made of completely cheap material and byond what I would every pay for a player of that quality. I wouldn't buy an iPod mini until all the simple flaws I pointed out are fixed. Then again, would I buy any other iPod? I might consider. I'm hammering the iPod mini because of my unexpected disappointment with its audio quality and much more over its hype as a RM1000 player. It's actually fine by most standards - but my ears and m brain tend to demand more out an audio player - it's incapability to reproduce sound to my standards is actually quite normal, I've probably thrown out many players as useless out of my despair in looking for a player that can do the job that my computer is doing. Is it the earphones of the iPod? I don't think so - I'm quite certain they are fine although mine might be better. I'm hoping future incarnations of the iPod mini will improve considerably over its earlier siblings - but it's unlikely it'll be an iPod mini I'll be looking at by the time it does improve to my standards. I will review a new game after my exams - SWAT 4.
