Dice for Decision Making

dice_small.jpg I bought some small dice here. Besides game design, these dice here also serve an important purpose in decision making. It's like my magic 8-ball. :D

I roll the dice, find what random number shows up, and then I attempt to interpret those numbers to make my decision. I know it sounds pretty dumb, but it's pretty funny. :D

And yes, that is a macroeconomics book the dice are on. Imagine if all the policy makers in the world used my method of decision making: throwing dice. :D

Definition of Life and Death?

Being alive: What do I think? I think you are alive as long as you are expending some resources that cannot become beneficial to someone else since you have to consume them. What do I mean by this? If you kill someone and don't report it, they are legally alive, and if they are receiving payments of some kind, and you take it, they aren't alive. They are no longer expending resources that cannot become benefit another person. For obvious reasons, death is the opposite of being alive. Why do I not mention sentience? Even if you are brain dead - you still cost someone money. And if you are being kept alive in a braindead of retarded state, someone obviously believes you are still alive.

Why do I choose such a cold state to define it? Because a lot of people don't know it, but that's their definition. What incentive is there otherwise?

(Yes, I know I haven't quite posted anything in a while. I haven't been taken any time to think about what to blog about, in favour of more important issues like studying and so on. In addition, I've had a bad long bout of writer's block, which is still on right now. Be patient, and things will smooth over.)

World of Data

I was thinking about the world. What if it were made entirely out of data? Data that beings far beyond could modify like programmers of a game? What if the world is built purely on a set of rules, and the original Earth and every other planet were merely random seeds with more data than we could even imagine? What if the entire universe configuration was generated by some advanced random number generator? One powerful enough to generate a number that we couldn't even come close to understanding? What if people among us could modify, reprogram the data as it flowed?

Maybe they wouldn't have godlike powers, but what if they could shift things like market prices, traffic light intervals and even small bits like a given clock? What is the reason for errors in a clock is that some among us can unconsciously alter, modify and influence the small workings of simple pieces of data?

What if someone had the capability to modify larger amounts of data in the world? Altering entire systems of data, bending entire simple systems out of whack? What if someone could completely alter the manner in which a lamp would turn on? What if someone could even read this data flow in advance, making them clairvoyant? What if humans could actually process and understand small portions of this data flow?
